A family in Embu is losing sleep following the disappearance of their twin boys.

Leon Macharia 15, and his twin brother Ryan Mwenda, were form two students at the Moi High school Mbiruri, and Kangaru Boys High school respectively.

According to their mother Naisera Muthoni, the boys were preparing to go back to school after the one-week break when they went missing.

“They went missing at around midday, just as I was preparing to drop them to school,” said Muthoni.

“They were to report to their respective schools, and so we woke up and started preparing; ironed clothes, ate lunch, then I entered my room to prepare, but when I came out, I found they had left all their school belongings behind and vanished,” she added.

Muthoni, a teacher at Nyangwa Boys High School, said she jumped into her vehicle and drove around the area, but could not find them.

“I did not see anything abnormal right from morning when we woke up and began preparing for school. They were okay,” Muthoni observed.

She, however, noted that her two sons had expressed a desire to attend the same secondary school – and had wondered why they were attending different schools yet they are twins.

“They have not had any indiscipline cases, and even the issue of schooling together cropped up this term, and I had not imagined it could escalate to a level of them leaving home,” said Muthoni.

According to Muthoni, the decision to have the twins attend separate secondary schools was informed by a desire to help inculcate and develop individual character and personality given they have always been together, and done everything together since their childhood.

Muthoni said she had given the boys each Ksh1,000 as pocket money on the day of their disappearance – money they may have used to move around.

“I was told by boda-boda riders in area that the boys were seen around, and were asking to be dropped at the Embu Town bus terminus, where they would board Nairobi bound matatus,” said a tearful Muthoni.

The matter was reported at the Itabua Police station.
