Martha Karua: Azimio Gov’t Will Ensure Security As She Woos Laikipia County

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party deputy presidential candidate Martha Karua resumed her campaigns in the Mt. Kenya region on Tuesday, making 6 stops in the vast Laikipia County.

Karua, who was accompanied by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and Laikipia Governor Mureithi Nderitu among other leaders, addressed issues such as insecurity, revival of local industries and the fight against corruption among other issues.

Karua’s campaign convoy made stops at various areas in the county including Naibor, Nanyuki, Makutano, Wiyumiririe, Manguo and finally Nyahururu town.

Security was top of the agenda with the Raila Odinga running mate urging the communities in Laikipia to shun violence and live with harmony.

“Tunataka muwe kitu kimoja…kazi ya kinara wetu, Raila Amollo Odinga, ni kupatanisha Wakenya wote,” she said.

She urged locals to support Odinga’s presidential bid in a County that has more than 246,000 registered voters.

Karua pledged to revive local industries such as the Mount Kenya Textile (Mountex) to put Laikipia back on the journey to becoming an industrial hub.

“Mambo ya vijana kupata ajira, kinara wetu anasema ‘one county, one product’…hiyo ni kusema kwa kila kaunti tuta-introduce industry ya product mpya,” she said.

CS Munya, on his part, said: “President mwenyewe aliahidi tuanze hii factory yenu ya Mountex, tukapewa ardhi na ata pesa iko kwa budget. Kwa hivo tutakuwa tukisupply raw material hii Africa yote.”

Karua also outlined Azimio’s socio-economic plans aimed at improving the livelihoods of ordinary citizens in the education and health sectors.

“Tunaelewa iko jamii hawana mapato…zile jamii maskini kabisa zitakuwa zinapatiwa, kwa mpango wa social support, elfu sita kwa mwezi angalau wajinunulie chakula,” she said.

Odinga’s running mate pledged to fight corruption if elected, and asked Kenyans to vote out leaders implicated in graft.

Karua next heads to Garissa town in her maiden entry into Northern Kenya since her unveiling as the Azimio presidential running mate.
