How To Battle Smelly And Sweaty Armpits

Nothing lowers your self-esteem like a foul smell in your armpits. 

At some point in our lives, we’ve all been there. Smelly armpits can ruin an otherwise wonderful day. 

Did you realize that sweat has no odour? So there you have it. The presence of germs on the skin is the cause of smelly sweat. 

The foul smell is formed when these bacteria break down sweat into acids.

Excessive sweat gives bacteria a breeding ground.  The glands, known as the Apocrine glands, are the glands responsible for sweating.  

These glands are located in the groin, armpits, and nipples.

Maintaining good hygiene is definitely a good start towards smelling nice. Showering daily or even after strenuous activities like sports will sure do the trick. 

Take your time and invest in antibacterial soaps that will kill the bacteria on your skin.

Shaving Your Underarm

Underarm hair absorbs moisture, thus creating a swampy environment that odor causing bacteria revel in. In addition, hair is naturally porous, thus has the tendency to absorb odor. 

Shaving or waxing your armpits will definitely make you dryer. A study conducted by dermatologists in 2016 states that cleansing becomes more effective after shaving. 

This in turn helps to reduce armpit odor.

Use Appropriate Skin Care Products

Take your time to invest in anti-perspirant and deodorant. Many confuse the two as being one and the same thing, but they are not. 

An antiperspirant helps to reduce underarm sweating, protects the skin against odour. On the other hand, a deodorant assists in keeping your skin fresh and smelling nice throughout the day. 

Investing in a deodorant is much more preferable because it reduces sweat and maintains skin freshness.

Managing  Stress

Stress is usually the root cause of so many problems in your body. 

Stress causes the sweat glands to produce excess sweat. Stress management and anxiety reduction techniques like yoga, reading, exercising among others should be employed.
