Police in Uriri sub-county, Migori County, are pursuing a man who allegedly stabbed his grandmother-in-law to death at God Jaoko village.

The suspect, a 19-year-old who sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in 2021, is said to have committed the crime on Friday night.

Area Assistant Chief Charles Onindo said the suspect stormed the deceased’s home demanding to see his wife who had left him several days ago following marital wrangles.

Mr. Onindo said they suspect that the deceased, identified as 72-year-old Agneta Olum, was killed after a slight quarrel with the suspect.

The perpetrator is then said to have fled to an unknown destination.

The granny was rushed to Sibuoche health centre but succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. Her body was then moved to the mortuary.

Following the incident, the administrator added, the deceased’s family in a retaliatory attack stormed the suspect’s home and torched three houses, destroying properties of unknown value.

Mr Onindo appealed to members of the public with any information leading to the suspect’s arrest to report to the police.
