A standoff ensued at Azimio La Umoja rally in Moi Gardens Lodwar, Turkana county, on Thursday after charged supporters of ODM and Jubilee parties clashed.
Raila had pitched a tent into the venue when the chaos erupted.
The chaotic incident erupted after Suna East MP Junet Mohamed invited Former Petroleum CS John Munyes to speak ahead of MP Jeremiah Lomurkai. The two leaders are eyeing the governor seat on Azimio ticket.
The move degenerated into a war of words among supporters with those allied to Munyes claiming their candidate had been undermined.
It is believed that the supporters wanted their candidate to speak last resulting in the chaotic incident.
The group of people donning Jubilee t-shirts were chanting ” No Munyes, No Raila” with some hurling stones at the podium.
Former UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi was forced to cut his speech short.
The security team managed to restore calm and Raila addressed supporters.
Munyes resolved to skip the rally in Kalemgorok Turkana south, Kakuma in Turkana West and Lodwar in Turkana Central.
Governor Josephat Nanok has castigated the incident terming it as violence tension and pain.
“I condemn with no uncertain terms the current violence, tensions and pains that Azimio Presidential candidate and partners rivalry are causing Lodwar residents,” he said on his Twitter account.
He said the entire businesses in Lodwar town were closed in the afternoon and in the last 10 years Lodwar has been peaceful
