Lamu: Suspected Al-Shabaab Terrorist Arrested, Weapons Recovered

A terror suspect with ties to the al-shabaab militia group was detained on Monday by General Service Unit (GSU) officers in the Milimani area of Lamu County.

The suspect, according to the National Police Service (NPS), is thought to be a member of a terrorist organization that recently attacked an NPS camp near Boni Forest, a notorious haven for terrorists.

According to NPS, they found “one RPG launcher, one RPG heat warhead, one booster, and two booster housing” in a cache of weapons.

“He had a visible suspected-gun-inflicted wound on the left leg above the ankle allegedly sustained in the previous foiled attack,” added NPS.

The arrest, NPS added, happened following an operation aimed to flush out remnants of al-shabaab militants suspected to be hiding in the vast Boni forest.

Meanwhile the suspect will remain in custody as further manhunt has been launched to apprehend the remaining accomplices.
