Three people have perished in a fire tragedy in Ruaka, Kiambu County.
The three were family members. They included the mother, father and their 5-year-old child.
The two parents have left behind six children.
The group was residing at a rental mabati (iron sheets) house.
Firefighters arrived at the scene on time but they could not access the scene to put off the fire due to the inaccessibility of the road.
Area MP John Wanjiku toured the area to console the families.
“kila wiki unasikia kuna moto hapa Kiambaa. tumeuliza ciounty government, kwa sababu wametujengea fire station hapa kwetu Kiambaa, wahakikishe kwamba hizo gari ziko standby,” the MP said.
“Wahakikishe ya kwamba kuna magari amazo zinawerza ingia kwenye mitaas kulingana na vile barabara zetu ziko. Tuko na shida ya barabara ndogo hapa ruaka.”
17 other people were left homeless after their homes were flattened by the inferno.
Area residents asked the government to ensure that roads are expanded to make them accessible.
