Maxine Wahome is on the cusp of WRC3 glory after a dramatic day three, Saturday, left her in the lead 14 minutes and 55 seconds ahead of her closest rival Hamza Anwar.
Maxine who is driving her Ford Fiesta Rally4 car competitively for the first time has shown good composure and speed to rattle the male dominated WRC3.
A late retirement on Friday night had cost her a 10-minute penalty which left McRae Kimathi in the lead. However Kimathi found himself in trouble after he struck a rock and damaged his rear and front suspension in Soysambu, and Maxine took back the lead despite having computer issues in her Ford Fiesta Rally4 car.
“The car is fine so far. We had some computer issues early on but we are working on it. The aim is to just keep it clean to the end,” a smiley Maxine reflected on her exploits.
Kimathi’s problems have left him languishing fourth 36.56.6 behind Maxine with just six stages left before curtains fall on this year’s WRC Safari Rally.
In the Kenya National Rally Championship, Group N champion Jasmeet Chana is putting up a spirited fight in his effort to topple veteran Carl Tundo from the top of the charts.
Tundo is the leading Kenyan driver sitting 13th overall, closely followed by Aakif Vitrani and Karan Patel with Jasmeet Chana sitting 19th overall.
Jasmeet was relieved to survive Saturday’s scare stages and is hoping for a good finish in Sunday’s finale.
Jasmeet is running this year’s Safari in the Kenya National Rally category sponsored by Ongole Beef and has blamed financial constraints for Kenya’s low numbers in the Safari Rally.
