Deputy President William Ruto has gone on the offensive against the Azimio One Kenya presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga over the chaos witnessed at Jacaranda grounds on Sunday.
The second-in-command blames the ODM boss for the violence witnessed at Jacaranda grounds which prompted police to lob teargas canisters at a rowdy crowd from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio political camps.
In a hard-hitting tweet on Monday, DP Ruto accused Raila on using violence as a tool of seeking power ahead of the August 9 General Election.
“Mr Kitendawili, so much for being clueless, rudderless, and planless about the challenges of our nation and the solutions thereof. The big question Kenyans are asking you, which you have refused to answer, is when are you going to stop using violence as your tool for seeking power???” wrote DP Ruto.
The mayhem on Sunday culminated in police officers sealing off the venue after arguments between the two political camps over a double booking of the premises.
Meanwhile, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has written to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to summon the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai over the chaos.
Through a statement from UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina, the party claimed the National Police Service was used by Azimio Coalition and its constituent ODM Party to create tension and interfere with the rally.
They further called on IEBC to disqualify Embakasi East MP Babu Owino from contesting in the August 9 polls for “planning violence” and holding his opponent’s campaigns hostage, contrary to the Constitution and the IEBC Code of Conduct.
Babu is accused of being the mastermind of the chaos as he had earlier indicated that he had booked the grounds on behalf of the Azimio camp.
