A family has been left in mourning following the mysterious death of their kin whose body was found inside a well at their farm in Ruguca village, Runyenjes Embu East sub county.
The search for 48-year-old Anthony Njiru alias Balothi, a turn boy at Runyenjes market who was reported missing on Thursday last week came to an end after his body was discovered on Tuesday afternoon inside the well.
According to Scola Murugi, the wife to the deceased, they were asleep when Anthony made a phone call at around 2am before getting out for a nature call when he failed to return.
Alarmed, she woke her son up and together they went to search for him all over the compound their efforts bearing no fruits.
“We were asleep with him when he left the house to have a nature call, but 15 minutes later he had returned, “Murugi says.
“With the help of our son we tried to trace his whereabouts around the compound in vain,”she adds.
This comes as some of the sisters to the deceased allude that he might have been killed and his body dumped inside the well.
According to Teresa Njeri, a sister to the deceased, and who lives a few kilometres away from their home, she received a call via Njirus mobile line at around 2am, but nobody spoke from the other end.
She then called back to enquire about the call, but the line went unanswered, only to later learn that her brother had gone missing the following day at around 8am.
Kigaa Sub location assistant chief Cosmas Karugano confirmed the incident.
Police officers from Runyenjes station retrieved the body from the well before taking it to Embu level 5 hospital mortuary.
Mr Karugano called on the family and locals to maintain peace as they await post mortem examinations on the body.
Police have since launched investigations into the matter.
