Speaking in an interview at his Karen residence on Sunday, Ruto divulged the relationship between him and the president and the escalating feud between the two.

The country’s second in command reiterated that he does not expect any input from the president and that his presidential run is not based on any condition particularly after supporting him in previous elections.

“My candidature has nothing to do with Uhuru Kenyatta. When I decided to support Uhuru Kenyatta it was a decision I made and I didn’t give him any conditions. I did not expect him to do anything. It’s him who offered that he will support me because I am supporting him,” he told NTV.

“He is an adult I’m sure he can decide and he can change his mind. He is supporting the other side just like any other Kenyan supporting either side of the divide.”

On his role as the DP, he said the handshake between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta barred him from discharging his duties, saying that his role in Jubilee’s second term was insignificant.

“I think post-handshake things change and my influence and role as the DP significantly was in the first term and because with the handshake a lot was different,” said Ruto.

He further claimed that he was still diligent to execute every mandate given to him in the second term, arguing that he is not incapacitated in executing his duties and that he discharged his mandate to the best of his ability.

“Which assignment is outstanding that was assigned to me by the president or by the law that I have not discharged? “To the best of my knowledge, I have discharged every responsibility and I dare say to the best of my ability and the best way possible,” Ruto said.
