A tout has been arrested in Kericho for threatening fruit vendors with eviction from the county in the upcoming August elections.

Kipruto Vincent Koech, is said to have commandeered his matatu towards a petrol station in Kericho town where the vendors were before launching the offensive.

The vendors pleaded with him to drive away and allow them to attend to their customers, according to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday.

“The tout shouted them down telling them that their days in the county were numbered, as they would be ejected before the forthcoming general elections,” DCI wrote.

The now-alarmed vendors, who have allegedly run operations at the station for the past 20 years, rushed to Kericho police station and filed reports that led to Koech’s arrest.

Koech is currently being held in custody on charges of incitement to violence.
