Why NEMA closed down city’s edible oil manufacturer


National Environment Management Authority, NEMA has dived into action to avert possible deaths in Nairobi.

NEMA has shut down with immediate effect an edible oil manufacturer Giloil based in Industrial Area, Nairobi for discharging untreated wastewater into Nairobi river.

According to the environment agency, all manufacturing companies are required to have an elaborate pre-treatment system for discharging waste into the ecosystem.


The Wednesday closure of Giloil Industry brings to a total of 15 factories closed down for breaching effluent-discharge rules.
